Role Description
This is a full-time remote role for a Senior Software Engineer at CyberWissen. The Senior Software Engineer will be responsible for back-end web development, software development, programming, and object-oriented programming (OOP).
We are currently seeking a Senior Cyber Security Monitoring Tool Developer specialising in Network and Security Applications for a hybrid role located in Amsterdam, offering the flexibility of remote work. This is a contract position that involves working on the development, implementation, and administration of cybersecurity monitoring tools. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with IT security teams to uphold network security standards, monitor enterprise-wide systems for security breaches, and formulate comprehensive network security strategies.
Skills:
- Cybersecurity Expertise: Demonstrated proficiency in threat detection, incident response, and compliance management relevant to the development of a cybersecurity monitoring tool. Strong grasp of networking and security principles.
- Programming Languages: Extensive experience in Java and NodeJS for backend development. Proficiency in ReactJS for frontend development.
- Database Management: Strong expertise in Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS) is required to effectively handle and manage data related to cybersecurity monitoring. This includes designing and optimising database schemas, writing complex queries, and ensuring data integrity and consistency. Familiarity with both relational databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Elasticsearch) is essential for selecting the appropriate database technology based on the specific requirements of the monitoring tool and the nature of the data being stored. Additionally, experience with database scalability, performance tuning, security best practices, and data replication for high availability is highly desirable.
- Monitoring Dashboard Development: Demonstrated expertise in designing and developing monitoring dashboards, leveraging open-source frameworks and templates to create intuitive and visually compelling interfaces. Proficiency in networking concepts is essential for effectively showcasing compliance management, vulnerability management, and threat analysis within the dashboard.
- Experience with RESTful API Development: He/ She should have experience in designing, implementing, and consuming RESTful APIs, including knowledge of best practices, standards (e.g., HTTP methods, status codes), and tools/frameworks for API development (e.g., Swagger, OpenAPI).
- Exposure with Public Cloud Technologies: Proficiency in Public Cloud Technologies, with a preference for Azure, along with exposure to AWS and GCP.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines: Demonstrated experience in implementing and managing CI/CD pipelines.
- Knowledge with Containers & Containers Orchestration tech: Familiarity with Containers and Container Orchestration technologies, such as Docker and Kubernetes, would be advantageous.
Technologies:
- Cybersecurity Tools: In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience with cybersecurity monitoring tools, either network-focused or security-focused.
- Java or NodeJS: Advanced proficiency in both Java and NodeJS for the development of robust and scalable backend components of the monitoring tool.
- ReactJS: Expertise in using ReactJS to create dynamic and responsive user interfaces for the monitoring dashboard.
- Database Systems: Proficient in working with RDBMS databases to store, retrieve, and manage data efficiently and securely.
- Open Source Frameworks: Experience in leveraging open source frameworks for building monitoring tools and dashboards. Knowledge of network security or similar tools for visualisation.

- Testing and Quality Assurance: Utilise testing methodologies, including DevSecOps practices, to ensure the reliability and security of the monitoring tool. Conduct comprehensive quality assurance to identify and rectify any issues
- Documentation: Create comprehensive documentation for the developed monitoring tool, including architecture, APIs, and user guides. Ensure documentation is clear and accessible to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or equivalent
- 10+ years of experience in software engineering / web application development
- Experience with programming languages such as C, C++, Java, JavaScript (Node.js, React), Go (Golang), PHP, Python and others
- Proficiency in AI and machine learning techniques, with hands-on experience in training and deploying models for the purpose of monitoring, detecting, and responding to cyber attacks and threats
- Strong understanding of data science concepts and methodologies, including feature engineering, model evaluation, and algorithm selection, to effectively leverage AI and machine learning for cybersecurity purposes
- Experience with relevant programming languages and frameworks for AI and machine learning, such as Python, TensorFlow, PyTorch, or scikit-learn, to develop and deploy predictive models for cybersecurity monitoring and threat detection
- Familiarity with cybersecurity datasets, tools, and techniques for data preprocessing, anomaly detection, and threat intelligence integration to enhance the effectiveness of AI and machine learning-based cybersecurity solutions
- Ability to collaborate with cybersecurity analysts, threat hunters, and incident responders to understand the unique requirements and challenges of cybersecurity operations and incorporate AI and machine learning solutions into existing workflows effectively
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyse complex cybersecurity data, identify patterns and trends, and develop innovative AI and machine learning approaches to enhance cyber threat detection and response capabilities
- Continuous learning mindset, staying updated on the latest advancements in AI, machine learning, and cybersecurity domains, and applying this knowledge to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of cybersecurity monitoring and threat detection solutions
- Proficient in the design and implementation of network protocols and security applications
- Expertise in security concepts such as risk management, security policies, threat modeling, and mitigation
- Experience with incident response, log analysis, and forensic investigations
- Experience with security systems/network administration, intrusion detection, vulnerability assessment, and security audits
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on detail and accuracy
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively, within a team environment
- Effective communication skills, including technical writing and presentation
- Certifications in Cybersecurity, such as CISSP, CISM, Microsoft Certified: Azure DevOps Engineer Expert or other relevant certificates, are preferred
- Minimum of 5+ years of experience in the cybersecurity domain.
- Proven track record in developing and implementing cybersecurity monitoring tools.
- Prior experience in managing projects of similar scale and duration.
