Description
The Clinic Coder 1 is responsible for assigning appropriate E&M, ICD-10 and CPT codes for services rendered in the inpatient and clinic setting. Abstracts clinical and demographic information into the EMR and financial databases.
The Clinic Coder 1 reports directly to the Director of Clinic Operations.
- Assigns E&M, ICD-10 and CPT classification codes according to established coding guidelines.
- Abstracts clinical, diagnosis, procedural and demographic information as specified by hospital/clinic policies and procedures.
- Queries physicians when code assignments are not straightforward or are inadequate, ambiguous or unclear for coding purposes.
- Keeps abreast of coding guidelines and reimbursement reporting requirements. Brings any identified concerns to Clinic Administration team for resolution.
- Meets established coding productivity and accuracy standards.
- Abides by the Standards of Ethical Coding as set forth by the AAPC.

- Education
- Minimum Requirements 2 years of medical office coding or successful
completion of a Coding Certificate Program or an Associate?s Degree in a Medical Office Coding or related program. Coding experience preferred.
- Licensure/Certification
- Required to obtain CPC, CCA, CCS, or COC certification within one year of employment.
- Work Experience
- Experience in assignment of ICD-10 diagnoses and procedure preferred.
- Experience in appropriate assignment of E&M preferred.
- Experience in assignment of CPT procedural codes preferred.
