Role Description

This is a project-based hourly remote role for a Web Developer at Hawthorn Creative. The Web Developer will be responsible for both front-end and back-end WordPress web development tasks to create engaging and functional websites for our clients.

Hawthorn Creative is a fast-paced environment so this person needs to be an excellent multi-tasker, be able to work under pressure and independently, and effectively communicate with both team members and clients.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

• Full-stack developer: write front and back-end code with a strong design interface experience.
• Write well-designed, testable, efficient code by using latest web development best practices
• Develop websites to match our high-end designs down to the exact pixel. Cooperate with web designers to match visual design intent.
• Develop websites using HTML / CSS / Javascript / PHP in a WordPress environment using Adobe XD design files.
• Understanding of design aesthetics (i.e., the color, font, padding, responsiveness, and more)
• Integrate data from various back-end services and databases (i.e. triple seat, Calendly, Mailchimp, Hubspot, Live Chat, etc.)
• Maintain ongoing web documentation and process for websites and tactics
• Be responsible for maintaining plugins, security, and general updates for our client sites

REQUIREMENTS

• Proven experience developing custom-designed responsive websites in WordPress using best development practices (samples are required with your application for consideration).
• Ability to convert comprehensive layout and wireframes into working WordPress pages
• Top-notch programming skills and in-depth knowledge of modern HTML/CSS, JavaScript, jQuery
• Candidate must have a strong understanding of UI, cross-browser compatibility, general web functions, and standards.
• Familiarity with at least one of the following programming languages: PHP, ASP.NET, Javascript or Ruby on Rails
• Hands-on experience with network diagnostics, network analytics tools
• Basic knowledge of Search Engine Optimization
• Comfortable working with debugging tools like Firebug, Chrome inspector, etc.
• Ability to understand CSS changes and their ramifications to ensure consistent style across platforms and browsers
• Knowledge of how to interact with RESTful APIs and formats (JSON, XML)
• Proficient understanding of code versioning tools (such as Git, SVN, and Mercurial).
• Strong understanding of PHP back-end development
• Aggressive problem diagnosis and creative problem-solving skills
• Strong organizational skills to juggle multiple tasks within the constraints of timelines and budgets with business acumen
• Ability to work and thrive in a fast-paced environment, learn rapidly, and master diverse web technologies and techniques.

WHAT YOU NEED FOR THIS POSITION:

• 5+ years of development experience.
• Expert-level skills working within WordPress.
• Ideally a bachelor?s degree in BS in computer science or a related field.
• A strong fundamental understanding of visual hierarchy and design.
• Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively to meet aggressive deadlines.
• Fluent written and spoken English is mandatory.
• Ability to effectively communicate with internal and external clients.

This position is project-based and compensation is hourly and you will be an independent contractor. No benefits apply to this position.
