The Health Information Coder is responsible for accurately assigning codes to diagnoses and procedures in compliance with ICD-10-CM/PCS official coding guidelines. This role involves querying healthcare providers for clarification when documentation is unclear, ambiguous, or incomplete and ensuring compliance with coding and billing regulations. The Coder will maintain current knowledge of coding standards through continuing education and will support organizational goals by ensuring data integrity in health records.
Roles And Responsibilities - Assign accurate ICD and CPT codes to diagnoses and procedures, ensuring compliance with governmental and insurance regulations.
- Collaborate with medical staff to resolve discrepancies or ambiguities in documentation via structured queries.
- Maintain proficiency in resolving coding edits and bill holds, working independently to ensure timely processing.
- Monitor and ensure coding sequences align with official coding and reimbursement guidelines.
- Participate in professional development activities to advance coding knowledge and practices.
Required Skills And Experience - Education: High school graduate or equivalent experience
- Licensing: Coding certification through AHIMA or AAPC is required.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Familiarity with coding systems, government regulations, and medical terminology.
Preferred Skills And Experience - Two-year degree in Health Information Management or a related field.
- A minimum of one year of hospital inpatient coding experience.
Physical Requirements - The position requires prolonged periods of sitting and repetitive hand motions.
- No lifting requirements; however, the role demands high mental and visual concentration.

Pay Range Disclosure - $21.00 - $31.00 per hour plus benefits
