Overview:

Our nonprofit client is seeking a talented and motivated WordPress developer to join its creative department. The ideal candidate is passionate about creating innovative, interactive, and user-friendly websites and should be highly proficient in WordPress theme development. This role will report to the Creative Director and collaborate with the team to create, build, and maintain websites.

Responsibilities:

• Fluent with developing websites on WordPress, especially with diagnosing the cause of identified errors and resolving them. This includes being able to jump into an existing WP website, evaluate the bugs/issues being reported via our ticketing system, and fix them efficiently. Many of the sites may be built differently, so focusing solely on and resolving the stated, ticketed issue is critical. Additional time re-writing code to improve the site structure beyond the submitted ticket is not part of this role.
• WP Engine fluency - Almost all our WP websites are hosted on WP Engine. The right candidate must be intimately familiar with WP Engine, updating plugins, and resolving any issues directly related to the hosting platform.
• Efficiency and Communication - In addition to resolving any website issues, the developer must send out a well-written response to the client, via our ticketing system Teamwork, to let them know their issue has been resolved. Polite and professional communication with the clients is essential as they will represent the agency.
• Highly organized and autonomous while communicative - all hours need to be tracked on our PM platform, Teamwork. Additionally, this role requires a level of autonomy, but the work can?t disappear into a black hole. Regular, weekly updates on all our web maintenance clients are required, stating what was serviced for their websites.

Requirements:

• 5+ years of experience programming in WordPress development, with a sample portfolio of sites you have built and sample code we can review.
• Experience with front-end technologies such as HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and jQuery.
• Familiarity with PHP programming language and MVC frameworks
• Knowledge of database management using MySQL
• Experience working with version control systems
• Understanding of responsive design principles and mobile-first development
• Experience with custom theme and plugin development
• Thorough understanding of website performance optimization techniques
• Expert: WordPress and Front-end development (CSS, JS)
• Fluent: in PHP, DB management, version control, responsive design
• Capable: Custom theme and plugin development
