Senior Web Developer

Eastern Standard is seeking a Senior Web Developer to join our development team as a full-time remote employee. Our current development team is a mix of backend and full-stack developers, and we?re looking for an experienced web developer to round out our growing team reporting to the Director of Web Development.

As a Senior Web Developer, you will be key in guiding architecture, implementing scalable solutions, and collaborating with cross-functional teams including UX strategists, designers, project managers, and QA specialists. In addition to helping guide the developer experience at Eastern Standard, you?ll provide technical leadership on projects, ensuring that our websites are built with performance, accessibility, and maintainability in mind.

The ideal candidate has a collaborative spirit and wants to be challenged by complex design and expansive design systems. However, they can also be relied upon to raise flags and make recommendations if they identify risks to timeframe, budget, or practicality.

The Role

• Technical Leadership & Architecture: Provide proactive consultation on implementation strategies, guiding development best practices from concept through launch.
• CMS Development: Build scalable, maintainable Drupal and WordPress themes, custom plugins, and API integrations.
• Database & Infrastructure Understanding: Navigate and optimize CMS databases and server environments.
• Performance & Accessibility: Ensure compliance with ADA/WCAG guidelines**,** using automated tools and manual checks for remediation.
• Code Quality & Maintainability: Write clean, well-documented front-end and back-end code that aligns with best practices.
• Project Collaboration: Work closely with designers, UX strategists, and project managers to assess feasibility, provide accurate time estimates, and ensure projects stay within scope.
• Project Workflow: Participate in project planning, maintain daily ticket updates in Jira, and communicate regularly with stakeholders.

Skills and Qualifications

• 3+ years experience developing websites using a PHP based CMS (Drupal and Wordpress)
• Strong understanding of CMS architecture, including component-based design systems and structured data.
• Ability to effectively translate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience with PHP, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and familiarity with modern front-end frameworks (React, Vue, etc.).
• Significant experience assessing and remediating ADA/WCAG compliance issues.
• Previous experience in a digital agency or fast-paced environment handling multiple client projects.
• Familiarity with Git-based workflows and deployment best practices.

Salary: 100,000 - 115,000 (depending on experience and qualifications)
