Software Engineer I - Remote, USA
We are seeking a highly motivated Junior Software Engineer to join our dynamic team at Ambry Genetics. This role is ideal for someone early in their career and who is eager to grow and contribute to critical software development projects within a regulated, high-impact healthcare environment. You will be supporting the development of our Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), which is central to specimen accessioning, lab automation, and results delivery.
This job is responsible for assisting in the delivery of software solutions that enhance operational efficiency, accuracy, and integration with third-party systems. This position provides an opportunity to collaborate on cross-functional agile teams and contribute to healthcare technology that positively impacts lives.
Essential Functions
- Assist in the development and maintenance of internal applications, particularly the LIMS system (Laboratory Information Management Systems)
- Collaborate with the team to create and enhance front-end user interfaces
- Contribute to the development and testing of RESTful APIs and microservices
- Support integrations between internal applications and third-party systems
- Troubleshoot and resolve software bugs or performance issues under guidance
- Participate in code reviews and sprint ceremonies as part of the agile process
- Document code and update technical documentation as needed
- Engage in continuous learning of development tools, coding standards, and best practices
- Shadow senior engineers and contribute to architectural discussions as appropriate
- Support compliance with SOX and HIPAA through quality code and documentation
- Collaborate with QA and DevOps teams during deployment cycles
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor?s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field or equivalent work experience
- 1+ years experience in software development
- Solid understanding of object-oriented programming principles
- Familiarity with front-end development tools (HTML, CSS, JavaScript)
- Exposure to specifically Java and Spring Boot microservices- some PHP and MVC frameworks like Symfony experience in addition to Java is preferred
- Basic knowledge of containerization tools such as Docker
- Familiarity with SQL and relational database concepts
- Strong problem-solving and debugging skills
- Willingness to learn new technologies, methodologies, and compliance standards
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to thrive in a collaborative, agile, and fast-paced team environment
Preferred
- Internship or project experience in a similar software development environment
- Familiarity with React.js
- Exposure to AWS services and Linux environments
- Experience with ORM tools and both relational and NoSQL databases
- Knowledge of healthcare regulations (HIPAA/SOX) is a plus

Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations.
