Position Summary: We're seeking a talented Front-End Engineer to join our team at Bold Orange. In this role, you'll contribute to the implementation of advanced web application solutions and integrations for our clients. Front-End Engineers at Bold Orange operate on both the front-end (client-side) and middle-tier (web application server, micro-services, etc.). In this position you'll leverage HTML, CSS, JavaScript frameworks (client-side, server-side, and isomorphic), server-side languages and frameworks (PHP, .Net, Python, Java Spring, etc.), and modern development practices with web technologies to create innovative, high-performance, and accessible solutions.

The ideal candidate is a motivated engineer with industry experience developing complex web applications, has an understanding of the entire front-end ecosystem, demonstrates strong-ownership, and is motivated to collaborate with other disciplines (Engineering, UX, PM, Account, etc.) to solve problems and deliver great software. You'll contribute to development efforts at a project-level, mentor junior team members, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to solve challenging problems.

Position Duties and Responsibilities: - Design and implement (build, test, deploy, operate) components of advanced web applications and integrations

  • Contribute to development efforts for complex client projects under the leadership of Senior and Lead Engineers
  • Design components of scalable, maintainable front-end and middle-tier solutions
  • Develop reusable components and libraries for project-specific applications
  • Contribute to API services using appropriate server-side technologies
  • Mentor junior developers and help develop and improve engineering best practices within teams
  • Document technical specifications and architecture decisions for component of projects
  • Contribute to incident response for project-related issues, implement preventative measures under the guidance of Senior and Lead Engineers
  • Contribute to single-page applications with sophisticated state management
  • Contribute to optimizations that measurably improve application performance
  • Lead technical implementation of components within the scope of a project

Required Qualifications & Experience: - 2-5 years of professional experience building web applications

  • Proficiency in HTML5, CSS3, and modern JavaScript (ES6+)
  • Proficiency in at least one JavaScript framework (React, Vue, Angular, etc.)
  • Experience with at least one server-side language and framework (JavaScript/Node.js, PHP/WordPress, C#/.Net, Java/Spring, Python/Django, etc.)
  • Experience implementing state management solutions for moderate-complexity applications
  • Experience with build tools and module systems
  • Strong understanding of responsive design principles and cross-browser compatibility
  • Proficiency with version control systems (Git) and collaborative development workflows
  • Experience creating and consuming RESTful APIs
  • Knowledge of web performance optimization techniques
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, related field, or equivalent practical experience

Preferred Qualifications: - Experience with multiple JavaScript frameworks

  • Proficiency with server-side JavaScript or with JavaScript, PHP, or Python
  • Experience configuring and contributing to custom development for CMS solutions
  • Experience knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG AA)
  • Experience with testing frameworks (Jest, Cypress, JUnit, PHPUnit, etc.)
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
  • Experience with data validation and error handling
  • Knowledge of GraphQL or other query languages
  • Experience with CSS preprocessing and architecture methodologies
  • Understanding of UX/UI design principles

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

As a Front-End/Full Stack Engineer at Bold Orange, you will collaborate with various stakeholders:

  • Design (UX/UI): Transform comprehensive visual designs into functional interfaces, provide implementation feedback
  • Project Management: Own feature delivery, provide realistic estimates, actively participate in agile ceremonies
  • SEO: Implement and recommend technical SEO best practices, integrate analytics, optimize loading
  • Analytics: Integrate analytics tools, implement data layer components, and validate tracking accuracy
  • Data Engineering: Collaborate on API integration patterns, implement efficient data handling in front-end applications
  • Software Engineering: Collaborate on full-stack features, provide input on API design for front-end consumption

Performance Expectations:

  1. Technical Expertise: Demonstrates proficiency in HTML, CSS, at least one JavaScript framework, one server-side language or framework, and related ecosystems Code Quality: Maintains <1 critical bug per 1000 lines of code with 70%+ test coverage18. Delivery: Achieves 85%+ on-time feature delivery with 90%+ completeness against acceptance criteria
  2. Innovation: Successfully implements at least 1 new technology or pattern per year with positive outcomes

Compensation: We benchmark salaries across industry standards and local markets to ensure we offer competitive, fair compensation. Final offers reflect a candidate?s skills, experience, and location. The starting salary range for this role is $110k per year in the Greater Minneapolis/St. Paul market at the time of posting.
