Software Engineer

Backend API Developer (PHP, Remote)

Location: Remote (USA)

Sage Recruiting is proud to partner with our client, a leader in the retail marketing services industry, to help them find two exceptional Backend API Developers for their team. We are hoping to find one Senior candidate and one Intermediate. This exciting role is part of a growing digital platform focused on providing innovative solutions for consumers through a mobile cashback app.

Responsibilities:

In this role, you?ll collaborate with a team of talented engineers to:

• Enhance a robust backend API by developing new features and functionality.
• Write scalable, reliable, and maintainable code that supports a growing user base and data sets.
• Conduct code reviews and write unit tests to ensure the delivery of high-quality software.
• Apply object-oriented design principles to improve the system?s maintainability and flexibility.
• Identify and address technical debt to enhance long-term system performance.
• Implement design patterns to refactor the codebase and improve maintainability.
• Mentor teammates on refactoring strategies and unit testing best practices.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of the team?s software development processes.

What You Bring to the Team:

• Hands-on experience with the LAMP stack and cloud infrastructure like Amazon Web Services (AWS) or similar.
• Proficiency with PHP MVC frameworks such as Symfony or Laravel.
• Strong communication skills to explain technical concepts to cross-functional teams.
• Solid understanding of writing unit and functional tests (experience with TDD is a plus).
• Expertise with source control systems like Git.
• Familiarity with web front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript).
• Competence with the command line, Linux servers, and related development tools.
• A proactive approach to ownership of your work, from development to production.
• Collaborative and solution-oriented mindset for tackling complex problems.
• Bachelor?s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.

• Passion for automation and improving efficiency.
• Experience building and scaling custom backend APIs for mobile applications.
